Carpets
The Patrimonio Nacional collection has just over 600 carpets
Carpets have always been essential features in royal residences, and continue to be so to this day. The testaments that record the monarchs' possessions reveal the importance they had within the royal collections and the value they were accorded. Many of them were integrated into the decorative projects designed by the court artists for the different rooms, forming an inseparable whole with the rest of the furniture and ornamentation. Besides these, there are also the so-called "floating" carpets, woven expressly so that the monarch could decide to put them wherever they were necessary to create an appropriate atmosphere.
