Royal Convent de San Pascual

THE TEMPLE

This is the work of architect Marcelo Fontón, and its construction work took place between August 1765 and the end of January 1770, with the first mass being sung on the day of the patron saint, 17 May.

The temple, in the shape of a Latin cross, has its main altar decorated with the painting of St. Paschal Baylon Adoring the Blessed Sacrament. This work by Anton Raphael Mengs, who became Charles III's court painter, replaced Giambattista Tiepolo's canvas.

The other canvases by Tiepolo in the church were also removed by order of Charles III and replaced with paintings by Francisco Bayeu and Mariano Salvador Maella, lost in the assault on the convent during the Spanish Civil War.
